Grandscape - The Colony

There are so many times living here in Texas that I find myself saying, "I feel like I am on vacation",  and today was no exception!  Today my daughter and I had a "mother/daughter date day" and we decided to check out Grandscape.  We have watched it being built but we haven't been there since it's opened.  I'm so glad we chose to go there today.  Both of us felt like we were on vacation at an outdoor entertainment area, similar to places we have been to in Florida and Arizona.  We loved it and are planning to go back again soon!

Have y'all been there yet?!?  If not, you should go check it out.

After being here I now have it on my list as a place I want to take my friends when they visit Texas.  It is a perfect place to enjoy a beautiful night out with food, snacks, shopping, and even entertainment (and I am not just saying this because there is a New York Pizza place here!).  I haven't tried the pizza yet, but being from NY and a pizza snob/critic I need to try it for sure.  But for the record, NY really does have the best pizza (says every New Yorker!).

Anyways, back to Grandscape.  The first thing this location has going for it is that it is right next to Nebraska Furniture Mart.  I am just going to assume that anyone that lives in the Dallas area has already been here.  If not, you don't know what you are missing and you need to go there too.  It's like a home decorator's dream (and my husband's nightmare).  Let's just say, 560,000 square feet of furniture, accessories, appliances, and so much more.  I always leave there wanting to redo pretty much my entire house, top to bottom!  Such beautiful stuff, and so much of it!

Grandscape is a one-stop location for outdoor entertainment, dining, shopping, and relaxing.  There really is something for everyone!

One of the biggest attractions here is the Andretti Indoor Karting & Games building.  It is basically a building filled with so much fun!  High-Speed Biz Karts that go up to 35mph on a three-level track.  Yes...3 Levels!!  On top of this, there are more than 120 arcade games, a rope course, a 2 level laser tag arena, bowling, food/bar, and a Dark Ride motion theater.  My pictures can't do it justice so I will just say that this place is a must-see!

There are also so many dining locations with indoor and outdoor seating.  Hard Eight BBQ, Heritage Pizza, Lava Cantina (dining and entertainment), Mi Cocina, P.F. Chang's, Rock & Brews, Seven Doors Kitchen & Cocktails, Walk-On's Bistreaux & Bar, and Twigs American Kitchen....to name a few!!!  There are so many great options.  I haven't been to all of them...yet, but they all look incredible.

It is also a great place to just grab a little treat.  So many options like Julie's Sweets (Bakery), Kilwins (Chocolates. Fudge, Ice Cream), The Baked Bear (Ice Cream Sandwiches), Triple T's Popcorn, and Liberation Coffee.

If you are just looking for something to do for an afternoon or one of the beautiful Texas nights, this really is a great option.  Here are just a few of the events going on in the next two weeks.  Of course, check online before going to confirm they are still happening, and to see the full list (link below).

Even if you aren't looking for something specific to do, this is just a pretty location to walk around.  During the day the water fountain looks just like a regular fountain.  But supposedly at night, it turns into a 3-D projection show the top of every hour after dusk.  And the Kaleidoscope structure that you can't miss has hundreds of video tiles, more than 1,000 LED lights.  It is always changing and almost hypnotic to just sit and watch it.  Better yet, watch it while relaxing in one of the seating areas with one of your treats from one of the above places to make it even better!

And last but not least I can't leave out Scheels!  Just wow!  When they say "the world's largest all-sports store" they are not kidding!  Not only is there pretty much any sports item you can think of, but there is also a 65-foot, 16 car Ferris Wheel, a 16,000-gallon saltwater aquarium with over 600 fish, interactive arcade games and sports simulators (most currently closed at this time due to COVID-19).  This store was just really cool, very clean, the staff was incredibly friendly, and if you have a sports fan in your family they will absolutely love it!

Post Oak Creek - Fossil/Shark Teeth Hunt

Did y'all know that in Sherman Texas (about 30 minutes north of McKinney) there is a great spot to search for old shark teeth and fossils?  There were fossils everywhere.  Just pick a spot to sit and start scooping up rocks and you are bound to find something interesting!  Supposedly the old shark teeth are from 145 million years ago. (Some of our finds) We went with friends, because what better way is there to spend a gorgeous day outside (easily able to social distance), but still so much fun!  I mainly took pictures...because hey, it was just beautiful.  And because I love taking pictures of people having fun.  But everyone else was sifting rocks and enjoying hanging out in the water of the creek looking for shark teeth and cool fossils and rocks.  I couldn't believe how many they found!!  If you find something different here is a good link to see what it is:    http://northtexasfossils.com/sharks.htm Who knew that you could do someth...

Frisco Central Park

Yes, y'all read that right... Central Park .  Being from New York the name of this park caught my attention the first time I drove past it.  And then a second later I saw all the Longhorn Statues on the front lawn and it went from "I wonder what type of park this is" to "I need to walk around this park!"  I am glad I did...I think you might like it too!  Obviously, that is why I am telling y'all about it!   The first thing I need to tell you is that the park is nowhere near as big as the NYC Central Park.  It is actually very small (or as my kids would say, "perfect size").  But there is a lot of beauty in this very small place.  Some people even call it a "hidden gem in Frisco".  I would agree with that!            Location: 3155 Parkwood Blvd, Frisco TX 75034.  It is right off of Parkwood.  You might not even see it at first because it is surrounded by hotels...but you probably won't miss the big Long...

Prairie Creek Park

Did y'all know that right here in North Texas there is a hidden waterfall?  It is tucked inside a wooded greenbelt park that has trails, bridges, and creeks....and it is located right in Richardson Texas.  Prairie Creek Park! The history of this park is that it was founded in 1966 and is one of the oldest and most historical parks in Richardson.  This area has been preserved to protect nature and wildlife habitats.  Beautiful park, and has a waterfall?!!  Y’all need to go see this place!  And I should mention that the waterfall is so easy to access.  It is very close to the street where you can park.  And it is pretty easy to find because before you can even see it you will hear it.  The sound of strong rushing water seems to echo through the trees.  And you can even walk over the top of the fall to get onto the trail! You can go and just see the waterfall but I highly recommend going for the walk through the trails.  It is so peace...
