Prairie Creek Park



Did y'all know that right here in North Texas there is a hidden waterfall?  It is tucked inside a wooded greenbelt park that has trails, bridges, and creeks....and it is located right in Richardson Texas.  Prairie Creek Park!

The history of this park is that it was founded in 1966 and is one of the oldest and most historical parks in Richardson.  This area has been preserved to protect nature and wildlife habitats.  Beautiful park, and has a waterfall?!!  Y’all need to go see this place!  And I should mention that the waterfall is so easy to access.  It is very close to the street where you can park.  And it is pretty easy to find because before you can even see it you will hear it.  The sound of strong rushing water seems to echo through the trees.  And you can even walk over the top of the fall to get onto the trail!

You can go and just see the waterfall but I highly recommend going for the walk through the trails.  It is so peaceful and beautiful, and you can see so many things like beautiful bridges, incredible wildflowers, colorful birds, ducks, turtles, etc.  Such a great place for a scavenger hunt with younger kids (or even bigger ones if they like challenging each other to see who can find the next best thing).  

The trail was so clean and it was so easy to forget that we were in the middle of Richardson and surrounded by homes.  It feels like you are just walking through the woods, not near anything.  It was incredibly peaceful!  I highly recommend it!  To be honest, I loved it so much and was so relaxed that I didn't even take anywhere near the number of pictures that I wanted to for this blog.  I guess that means that I absolutely must go back.  Which I have planned to do anyways!  



Surrounding the park are plenty of picnic benches and very large grass areas.  While we were here we saw so many people with big picnic blankets on the grass enjoying some lunch while kids were running around playing.  It looked so peaceful and relaxing!  The calm of nature and beautiful backdrops!  And these Texas skies and perfect weather!!  Incredible!  I love Texas...so much! 

Side note: you can even find some trees starting to change color here!  

Address: Prairie Creek Park, 2400 W. Prairie Creek Drive, Richardson, TX 75080.  (The park is big at 37.25 acres so you could wander around a little to find the waterfall, but if you want to head directly there, the best place to park for the waterfall is on West Prairie Creek Drive between Ridgewood Drive and Northview Drive).

Post Oak Creek - Fossil/Shark Teeth Hunt

Did y'all know that in Sherman Texas (about 30 minutes north of McKinney) there is a great spot to search for old shark teeth and fossils?  There were fossils everywhere.  Just pick a spot to sit and start scooping up rocks and you are bound to find something interesting!  Supposedly the old shark teeth are from 145 million years ago. Dallas Love Field Plane Spotting Location

If you ever need to go to Dallas Love Field Airport (or if you just have a kid that loves planes), y’all might want to check out Bachman Lake Park!   It is a beautiful location, and happens to be right next to the airport.   Dallas Love Field has 2 parallel runways and this lake runs right along the north edge of the airport.  Here is a map of the lake to the airport. Southwest Airlines' planes usually land and depart from one runway, and  Delta and United typically use the other runway.  So if you are waiting for someone to arrive this might be a fun place to wait, so that you can watch their actual plane coming in for the landing.  If you stay on Shorecrest Drive you get a really close view of the planes right above you, but either side of the lake is still a good spot to view them.  And it is a public park, so anyone can go.   When in the area my family likes to pick up some lunch, take it down to the park, and eat while watching planes come in...
