Watters Creek, Allen

Do any of y'all like to shop, eat, listen to live music, gather with friends for a cup of coffee, or let you kids run around and play while you watch from a pretty green lawn area with a small creek.  If you answered yes, (of course you did), to any of this than Watters Creek in Allen is a place you might want to head to.

**Friday - Sunday, August 7-9 2020 is Tax-Free Weekend.  On top of this, if you spend $150 or more at any Watters Creek restaurant or retailer you will get a $20 Gift Card to Watters Creek.  (While supplies last).

This week my kids and I came here just to walk around.  They never mind coming here because it is really pretty, they have good choices of treats, and it isn't that big (this is probably their favorite part, or maybe the treats)!  I on the other hand love some of the shops.  Most of them have a small boutique feel, and you can usually find something different for yourself or a good gift idea.   Here is a list of some of the shops: Anthropologie, DSW, Francesca's, Eddie Bauer, Bath & Body Works, Birds & Words (I love this one - you might have been to one if you have been to downtown McKinney), Kendra Scott, Loft, Michaels, Pandora, Pink Victoria Secret, Sephora, Vera Bradley, etc.

Another one of the things I love about this area is the section of places to eat.  We have been to a lot of these places and always had good experiences.  Here are just a few of them:  The Cheesecake Factory, The Blue Fish, Grimaldi's, Mi Cocina, Fish City Grill, Firewater, P.F. Chang's, Panera, Snappy Salads, and Village Burger Bar (one of my favorites!)  They also have great places for treats like Frios Gourmet Pops, Menchie's Frozen Yogurt, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Paciugo Italian Gelato Renaissance, and Frogg Coffee Bar & Creperie.

I really like the Frogg Coffee Bar & Creperie.  It is located right next to a play zone for kids.  There have been a few times my husband and I would sit on the patio with some coffee while the kids just run around.   It's almost like a date!  (The kid zone area was not open when we were there this week).

If you have younger kids, they are currently doing a FREE Kids Club To Go Box between August 17-21,  This is for kids ages 2-6 years old.  It is filled with activities for the kids to do.  To get the box go to the Concierge + lounge on the Garden Park Dr (next to J.Jill).

Before COVID there was always some type of entertainment going on here (I hope this comes back).  You could go and just sit on the lawn and listen to live music, or walk around and see work from local artists.  I did inquire if they knew when this would come back, and at this time there is not a date for it...but it is still a great place to go for a stroll, to shop, or to grab something to eat.  There is free parking all around the stores, and a free parking garage.

We also go to this area every year around the holidays.  They do a tree lighting ceremony with fireworks, Santa makes a visit, Mrs. Clause gives out cookies, there are carolers, face painting, and this past year horse and carriage ride through the area.  Not to mention that it is decorated so pretty.  A great place to walk around with a hot chocolate and get yourself into the holiday spirit!

So year-round I recommend coming to Watters Creek.  To see if any local events are coming up make sure to check back to their website listed below!

Post Oak Creek - Fossil/Shark Teeth Hunt

Did y'all know that in Sherman Texas (about 30 minutes north of McKinney) there is a great spot to search for old shark teeth and fossils?  There were fossils everywhere.  Just pick a spot to sit and start scooping up rocks and you are bound to find something interesting!  Supposedly the old shark teeth are from 145 million years ago. (Some of our finds) We went with friends, because what better way is there to spend a gorgeous day outside (easily able to social distance), but still so much fun!  I mainly took pictures...because hey, it was just beautiful.  And because I love taking pictures of people having fun.  But everyone else was sifting rocks and enjoying hanging out in the water of the creek looking for shark teeth and cool fossils and rocks.  I couldn't believe how many they found!!  If you find something different here is a good link to see what it is:    http://northtexasfossils.com/sharks.htm Who knew that you could do someth...

Prairie Creek Park

Did y'all know that right here in North Texas there is a hidden waterfall?  It is tucked inside a wooded greenbelt park that has trails, bridges, and creeks....and it is located right in Richardson Texas.  Prairie Creek Park! The history of this park is that it was founded in 1966 and is one of the oldest and most historical parks in Richardson.  This area has been preserved to protect nature and wildlife habitats.  Beautiful park, and has a waterfall?!!  Y’all need to go see this place!  And I should mention that the waterfall is so easy to access.  It is very close to the street where you can park.  And it is pretty easy to find because before you can even see it you will hear it.  The sound of strong rushing water seems to echo through the trees.  And you can even walk over the top of the fall to get onto the trail! You can go and just see the waterfall but I highly recommend going for the walk through the trails.  It is so peace...

Dallas Love Field Plane Spotting Location

If you ever need to go to Dallas Love Field Airport (or if you just have a kid that loves planes), y’all might want to check out Bachman Lake Park!   It is a beautiful location, and happens to be right next to the airport.   Dallas Love Field has 2 parallel runways and this lake runs right along the north edge of the airport.  Here is a map of the lake to the airport. Southwest Airlines' planes usually land and depart from one runway, and  Delta and United typically use the other runway.  So if you are waiting for someone to arrive this might be a fun place to wait, so that you can watch their actual plane coming in for the landing.  If you stay on Shorecrest Drive you get a really close view of the planes right above you, but either side of the lake is still a good spot to view them.  And it is a public park, so anyone can go.   When in the area my family likes to pick up some lunch, take it down to the park, and eat while watching planes come in...
