Sharkarosa Wildlife Ranch

Do y'all like seeing animals?  Do you love seeing rare and exotic wildlife in a setting that isn't a zoo?  Do you want to do this in a location that you can still socially distance?  If the answer is yes then this might be a place you would like to go here in North Texas.

There are over 150 animals at this 126-acre ranch that is located right near Lake Ray Roberts in Denton County.

They are open Friday, Saturday, and Sundays and offer daily passes or season passes.  Check out the website link below for hours, admission, and to make sure that they are open since you never know how things will change from day to day with COVID.  There are also discounts for seniors, and the military and 911 personnel are free with ID.

The ranch is self-guided with information throughout as well as educational presentations every 20 minutes at certain locations in the ranch.  You will get the list of times when you arrive.  When we were there my family got to see a lot of presentations and feedings, but the Black Bear presentation was our favorite!  The staff was so knowledgeable and entertained all of my kids' questions with some great answers.  And the bears were so cute, you could actually see their personalities.  This one looked like she was inviting us in to have lunch with her?!?

Some of the animals you might see during your visit are White Lions, Horses, Camels, Zebras, Yak, Deer, Zedonk, Zorse (they exist), Monkeys, Lemurs, Black Bears, Bobcats, Kangaroos, Wallabies, etc.

One of the nice things about this ranch is that for an additional cost you can even do private animal encounters where you get to hold a bunch of animals, feed some animals in the petting zoo area ($3 per bag or 4 bags for $10), do pony rides ($5 a ride), and 2-minute barrel train rides (adults can even go for a ride too....there is a very strong possibility that my husband and I took a ride...but I promised him that I wouldn’t share those pictures).

There is an air-conditioned snack bar on location, or picnic benches where you can stop and have lunch.  This way you can spend more time but take a break from the heat.

They used to do tram rides out onto the ranch, but at this time due to COVID, and seating spacing, they are not able to do them.  There is not an update on when those will start again.  But even without them, there are still many things to do and see here.

Oh, and the animals are very friendly, just ask my husband!!  He didn’t tell me I couldn’t share this picture (but don't tell him I did)!  This camel had a big crush on my husband.  She even wanted to give him a kiss...and...uummmm..see below!!

I knew a kiss was coming!  You could see it in her eyes!

He ducked just in time...but she still got him!

Some good memories made here, and I’m sure we will go back at some point.  Y’all should check it out too!

Tip:  When we went we found a Groupon for admission.  But, know that the Groupon pass does not work on the day you purchase it.  Make sure you read the rules of the Groupon that you buy and when it can be used.

Post Oak Creek - Fossil/Shark Teeth Hunt

Did y'all know that in Sherman Texas (about 30 minutes north of McKinney) there is a great spot to search for old shark teeth and fossils?  There were fossils everywhere.  Just pick a spot to sit and start scooping up rocks and you are bound to find something interesting!  Supposedly the old shark teeth are from 145 million years ago. (Some of our finds) We went with friends, because what better way is there to spend a gorgeous day outside (easily able to social distance), but still so much fun!  I mainly took pictures...because hey, it was just beautiful.  And because I love taking pictures of people having fun.  But everyone else was sifting rocks and enjoying hanging out in the water of the creek looking for shark teeth and cool fossils and rocks.  I couldn't believe how many they found!!  If you find something different here is a good link to see what it is:    http://northtexasfossils.com/sharks.htm Who knew that you could do someth...

Frisco Central Park

Yes, y'all read that right... Central Park .  Being from New York the name of this park caught my attention the first time I drove past it.  And then a second later I saw all the Longhorn Statues on the front lawn and it went from "I wonder what type of park this is" to "I need to walk around this park!"  I am glad I did...I think you might like it too!  Obviously, that is why I am telling y'all about it!   The first thing I need to tell you is that the park is nowhere near as big as the NYC Central Park.  It is actually very small (or as my kids would say, "perfect size").  But there is a lot of beauty in this very small place.  Some people even call it a "hidden gem in Frisco".  I would agree with that!            Location: 3155 Parkwood Blvd, Frisco TX 75034.  It is right off of Parkwood.  You might not even see it at first because it is surrounded by hotels...but you probably won't miss the big Long...

Prairie Creek Park

Did y'all know that right here in North Texas there is a hidden waterfall?  It is tucked inside a wooded greenbelt park that has trails, bridges, and creeks....and it is located right in Richardson Texas.  Prairie Creek Park! The history of this park is that it was founded in 1966 and is one of the oldest and most historical parks in Richardson.  This area has been preserved to protect nature and wildlife habitats.  Beautiful park, and has a waterfall?!!  Y’all need to go see this place!  And I should mention that the waterfall is so easy to access.  It is very close to the street where you can park.  And it is pretty easy to find because before you can even see it you will hear it.  The sound of strong rushing water seems to echo through the trees.  And you can even walk over the top of the fall to get onto the trail! You can go and just see the waterfall but I highly recommend going for the walk through the trails.  It is so peace...
