Post Oak Creek - Fossil/Shark Teeth Hunt



Did y'all know that in Sherman Texas (about 30 minutes north of McKinney) there is a great spot to search for old shark teeth and fossils?  There were fossils everywhere.  Just pick a spot to sit and start scooping up rocks and you are bound to find something interesting!  Supposedly the old shark teeth are from 145 million years ago.

We went with friends, because what better way is there to spend a gorgeous day outside (easily able to social distance), but still so much fun!  I mainly took pictures...because hey, it was just beautiful.  And because I love taking pictures of people having fun.  But everyone else was sifting rocks and enjoying hanging out in the water of the creek looking for shark teeth and cool fossils and rocks.  I couldn't believe how many they found!!

Who knew that you could do something so cool so close to home?!  My kids are already asking when we are going back.  And I am sure it will be soon!

Here are some things to do before you go, or to bring with you:
Suntan lotion/Bug spray.
Strainer to sift through the dirt/rocks.
Bucket/pail to keep everything you want to bring home
Small Towel to wipe off rocks (or sweat if you go on a hot day)!
Water shoes or boots (I don't suggest going barefoot).
Bathing suits (although my kids just sat down in what they were wearing and made it even more fun).
A change of clothes if you have kids that will no doubt be soaking wet by the time you are done.
Bottled Water (b/c Texas is hot and seeing all that water makes you want to drink water!)
And a camera Of Course!!  It’s so pretty here!  



Also, I have heard people say that they have seen snakes there, (thankfully we didn't...b/c I don't know how I would have reacted to that).  We did see some broken glass though.  So, my suggestion would be to make sure you and your family are wearing some type of water shoe.  Just in case.

Ok, so now I know you want to know where we were...and y'all need to go.....so here is the 
Location: Post Oak Creek, Sherman
Take North 75 to Exit 56.  S Travis Street Sherman.  If you type in your GPS Danny's Paint & Body Shop it will take you right to where there is a good entrance to the creek.  You will see where all the cars park near the bridge.  On the same side of the Body Shop as you are walking toward the bridge you will see a little cut-off going down.  Take that path and it will lead you right down to the creek.  There are a few dirt steps so make sure you are wearing good shoes so that you don't slip.




Have so much fun and share pictures of your shark teeth when you find them...you will....there are lots of them!!

Did y'all know that right here in North Texas there is a hidden waterfall?  It is tucked inside a wooded greenbelt park that has trails, bridges, and creeks....and it is located right in Richardson Texas.  Prairie Creek Park! The history of this park is that it was founded in 1966 and is one of the oldest and most historical parks in Richardson.  This area has been preserved to protect nature and wildlife habitats.  Beautiful park, and has a waterfall?!!  Y’all need to go see this place!  And I should mention that the waterfall is so easy to access.  It is very close to the street where you can park.  And it is pretty easy to find because before you can even see it you will hear it.  The sound of strong rushing water seems to echo through the trees.  And you can even walk over the top of the fall to get onto the trail! You can go and just see the waterfall but I highly recommend going for the walk through the trails.  It is so peace...

Dallas Love Field Plane Spotting Location

If you ever need to go to Dallas Love Field Airport (or if you just have a kid that loves planes), y’all might want to check out Bachman Lake Park!   It is a beautiful location, and happens to be right next to the airport.   Dallas Love Field has 2 parallel runways and this lake runs right along the north edge of the airport.  Here is a map of the lake to the airport. Southwest Airlines' planes usually land and depart from one runway, and  Delta and United typically use the other runway.  So if you are waiting for someone to arrive this might be a fun place to wait, so that you can watch their actual plane coming in for the landing.  If you stay on Shorecrest Drive you get a really close view of the planes right above you, but either side of the lake is still a good spot to view them.  And it is a public park, so anyone can go.   When in the area my family likes to pick up some lunch, take it down to the park, and eat while watching planes come in...
