Little Elm

Truth is that before I moved to Texas I had zero interest in even taking a vacation here.  I had a nice long list of places I wanted to see...and Texas was not on this list.  Reasons why?  I had no clue how awesome it was.  That's pretty much it.  When I thought Texas I pictured dust, dirt, dry, hot (very, very hot), and not much to see or do.  Talk about WRONG!!  Well, the hot part was pretty spot on....but it's not hot like I expected.  Don't get me wrong, 110 is a bit much, but the mornings and nights are incredible.  And you can always find shade or a nice breeze.  Oh, and very little humidity!  I love that part.  Being from NY that was the worst part about summers!  So I will take the heat without the humidity any day!

So, since I was someone that did not associate Texas with beautiful water, let me tell you that it does exist.  There are places that you can swim in the lakes, rent boats, paddleboards, kayaks, jet skis, tubes, etc.

Little Elm, Texas is a place that I tend to go to a lot when I am looking to see some pretty water or to feel like I am on vacation.  There is even a beachfront park (Little Elm Park) that has sand, swimming, hiking trails, places for picnics, playgrounds, and athletic fields.  I also can not leave out that it is a great place to watch the incredible Texas sunsets!!

There are also some great nature trails in the area where you can go for nice walks, runs, or bike rides such as Johnny Broyles Nature Trail, Beard Park, Cottonwood Park Trail, and Little Elm Beach Park.  If you don't have a bike there are places that you can even rent Beach Cruiser bikes to take on the trails.  So many things to do and pretty views to see.

Little Elm has been called, "The Town with the Lake Attitude".  If you are in the area y'all need to see this place!

Post Oak Creek - Fossil/Shark Teeth Hunt

Did y'all know that in Sherman Texas (about 30 minutes north of McKinney) there is a great spot to search for old shark teeth and fossils?  There were fossils everywhere.  Just pick a spot to sit and start scooping up rocks and you are bound to find something interesting!  Supposedly the old shark teeth are from 145 million years ago. (Some of our finds) We went with friends, because what better way is there to spend a gorgeous day outside (easily able to social distance), but still so much fun!  I mainly took pictures...because hey, it was just beautiful.  And because I love taking pictures of people having fun.  But everyone else was sifting rocks and enjoying hanging out in the water of the creek looking for shark teeth and cool fossils and rocks.  I couldn't believe how many they found!!  If you find something different here is a good link to see what it is:    http://northtexasfossils.com/sharks.htm Who knew that you could do someth...

Frisco Central Park

Yes, y'all read that right... Central Park .  Being from New York the name of this park caught my attention the first time I drove past it.  And then a second later I saw all the Longhorn Statues on the front lawn and it went from "I wonder what type of park this is" to "I need to walk around this park!"  I am glad I did...I think you might like it too!  Obviously, that is why I am telling y'all about it!   The first thing I need to tell you is that the park is nowhere near as big as the NYC Central Park.  It is actually very small (or as my kids would say, "perfect size").  But there is a lot of beauty in this very small place.  Some people even call it a "hidden gem in Frisco".  I would agree with that!            Location: 3155 Parkwood Blvd, Frisco TX 75034.  It is right off of Parkwood.  You might not even see it at first because it is surrounded by hotels...but you probably won't miss the big Long...

Prairie Creek Park

Did y'all know that right here in North Texas there is a hidden waterfall?  It is tucked inside a wooded greenbelt park that has trails, bridges, and creeks....and it is located right in Richardson Texas.  Prairie Creek Park! The history of this park is that it was founded in 1966 and is one of the oldest and most historical parks in Richardson.  This area has been preserved to protect nature and wildlife habitats.  Beautiful park, and has a waterfall?!!  Y’all need to go see this place!  And I should mention that the waterfall is so easy to access.  It is very close to the street where you can park.  And it is pretty easy to find because before you can even see it you will hear it.  The sound of strong rushing water seems to echo through the trees.  And you can even walk over the top of the fall to get onto the trail! You can go and just see the waterfall but I highly recommend going for the walk through the trails.  It is so peace...
