McKinney - Home For The Holidays

This is my first official blog ever, and I can't think of a better way to start than with Downtown McKinney's Home for the Holidays celebration!  McKinney was the first town my family visited when in the North Dallas area, and we instantly fell in love with the charm of this special downtown.  When you add in the holiday feel to it, it becomes magical!  Oh, and did I mention, admission is free! If you are in the area y'all need to see this!

This weekend is the 39th year that McKinney has hosted this celebration.  This is the second one I have been lucky enough to get to, and I know I will be at every future one too!  On Friday night there was a countdown and tree lighting ceremony in the middle of the square.  Due to some rain we were lucky enough to get a second countdown and re-lighting on Saturday night!  There is live music, food, entertainment, and family friendly fun activities such as a ferris wheel, merry go round, petting zoo and rock climbing wall to name a few things.  You might even see some snow while you are there (chopped ice).  Hey, we are in Texas, we don't get much snow.  I for one love the weather in the 60's this time of year, so no complaints here!

The best news is, the festival is still going on today, December 1st!  You haven't missed it!  It's a beautiful day to be outside.  Hours of celebration today are from Noon-5.  Remember, admission is free (there is a small fee for the kids rides).  If you have a family or big group of people in town visiting from Thanksgiving, what better place to take them.  There is something there for everyone!  And while you are there don't forget to stop into the unique downtown shops.  They are all decorated so nice, have such great items, and you might even find that one unique Christmas gift you didn't know you were looking for, but that would be perfect!

There are 12 public parking lots in the Downtown area.  Type in 111 N. Tennessee St McKinney, TX 75069 to get to the Downtown area.  Once there find a place to park, wander around, take in all the sights, sounds, festivities, dining, shopping, and enjoy one of the most beautiful Texas downtowns.

Hope y'all enjoy it!

Post Oak Creek - Fossil/Shark Teeth Hunt

Did y'all know that in Sherman Texas (about 30 minutes north of McKinney) there is a great spot to search for old shark teeth and fossils?  There were fossils everywhere.  Just pick a spot to sit and start scooping up rocks and you are bound to find something interesting!  Supposedly the old shark teeth are from 145 million years ago. (Some of our finds) We went with friends, because what better way is there to spend a gorgeous day outside (easily able to social distance), but still so much fun!  I mainly took pictures...because hey, it was just beautiful.  And because I love taking pictures of people having fun.  But everyone else was sifting rocks and enjoying hanging out in the water of the creek looking for shark teeth and cool fossils and rocks.  I couldn't believe how many they found!!  If you find something different here is a good link to see what it is:    http://northtexasfossils.com/sharks.htm Who knew that you could do someth...

Frisco Central Park

Yes, y'all read that right... Central Park .  Being from New York the name of this park caught my attention the first time I drove past it.  And then a second later I saw all the Longhorn Statues on the front lawn and it went from "I wonder what type of park this is" to "I need to walk around this park!"  I am glad I did...I think you might like it too!  Obviously, that is why I am telling y'all about it!   The first thing I need to tell you is that the park is nowhere near as big as the NYC Central Park.  It is actually very small (or as my kids would say, "perfect size").  But there is a lot of beauty in this very small place.  Some people even call it a "hidden gem in Frisco".  I would agree with that!            Location: 3155 Parkwood Blvd, Frisco TX 75034.  It is right off of Parkwood.  You might not even see it at first because it is surrounded by hotels...but you probably won't miss the big Long...

Prairie Creek Park

Did y'all know that right here in North Texas there is a hidden waterfall?  It is tucked inside a wooded greenbelt park that has trails, bridges, and creeks....and it is located right in Richardson Texas.  Prairie Creek Park! The history of this park is that it was founded in 1966 and is one of the oldest and most historical parks in Richardson.  This area has been preserved to protect nature and wildlife habitats.  Beautiful park, and has a waterfall?!!  Y’all need to go see this place!  And I should mention that the waterfall is so easy to access.  It is very close to the street where you can park.  And it is pretty easy to find because before you can even see it you will hear it.  The sound of strong rushing water seems to echo through the trees.  And you can even walk over the top of the fall to get onto the trail! You can go and just see the waterfall but I highly recommend going for the walk through the trails.  It is so peace...
