Last weekend before Christmas!

At this point hopefully you have gotten out, seen some cool things, and finished all of your Christmas shopping.  So instead of a post about things going on, this one is about Traditions Y'all.

Do you and your family have a Christmas Tradition?  I tried to think about my family when I was growing up.  We didn't have any set traditions other than my sister and I trying to stay up late or planning to wake up in the middle of the night to try to catch Santa!  This was a yearly thing.  One time we got really close and actually woke up during the night (it was probably only 10pm and our parents knew better and hadn't put the presents out yet).  But we got busted when our dad heard us talking behind the couch, and warned us that it was almost morning and maybe Santa just was going to skip our house since we were still awake.  Yeah, that was the last time we did that one.  Tradition ended!

But now that I have kids I see that there are so many things that we do year after year.  Our family "traditions" so to say.  We love our hot chocolate/donut drive to see Christmas Lights, and do this at least once or twice a season.  And we have 2 elves and a reindeer that show up December 1st every single year.  Yes we are one of those people!  Our elves aren't the most creative, but my kids are older, so they just love finding them every morning.  Sometimes I do something a little different and make the kids laugh in the morning.  Another thing we do every year is make gingerbread houses that fall down the second you put icing on them and then we have a ginger bread mess (and it vanishes about a day or two later).  Must be the elves throwing them out?!?  My daughter loves making her apple pie, my son loves setting up his train track under the tree, I love finding a new ornament, and my husband loves wrapping presents (lol, no he doesn't).  He just likes all the holiday treats that people bring to work to share (my kids love this too because he always brings some home for them).

But there are so many great ideas out there that are traditions for other people.  I'd love to hear  yours!!  Do you do the yearly new matching pajamas?  Or the silly sock?  Stockings not hung by a fireplace, but something instead?  Do you bake cookies or treats for family and friends (I like these people b/c I don't like to bake)!  Do you write letters to Santa, so send out Christmas cards?  Maybe you go to a tree farm and cut down a real tree, or have a Christmas movie you must watch every year.  Do you volunteer some time to help others, or gift out random gifts to strangers?  Do you host a family or friend party, or do a full PJ day where you don't leave the house?

I would love to hear some of your traditions....because I love it all!!  Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year to me.  It can be crazy and stressful, with lots of sickness and cold weather.  But it is also the time of year that you get to be a kid again no matter how old you are.  You get to have fun with it all and make memories and start up new traditions with your family and friends!

Enjoy your last weekend before the big day!!

Post Oak Creek - Fossil/Shark Teeth Hunt

Did y'all know that in Sherman Texas (about 30 minutes north of McKinney) there is a great spot to search for old shark teeth and fossils?  There were fossils everywhere.  Just pick a spot to sit and start scooping up rocks and you are bound to find something interesting!  Supposedly the old shark teeth are from 145 million years ago. (Some of our finds) We went with friends, because what better way is there to spend a gorgeous day outside (easily able to social distance), but still so much fun!  I mainly took pictures...because hey, it was just beautiful.  And because I love taking pictures of people having fun.  But everyone else was sifting rocks and enjoying hanging out in the water of the creek looking for shark teeth and cool fossils and rocks.  I couldn't believe how many they found!!  If you find something different here is a good link to see what it is:    http://northtexasfossils.com/sharks.htm Who knew that you could do someth...

Frisco Central Park

Yes, y'all read that right... Central Park .  Being from New York the name of this park caught my attention the first time I drove past it.  And then a second later I saw all the Longhorn Statues on the front lawn and it went from "I wonder what type of park this is" to "I need to walk around this park!"  I am glad I did...I think you might like it too!  Obviously, that is why I am telling y'all about it!   The first thing I need to tell you is that the park is nowhere near as big as the NYC Central Park.  It is actually very small (or as my kids would say, "perfect size").  But there is a lot of beauty in this very small place.  Some people even call it a "hidden gem in Frisco".  I would agree with that!            Location: 3155 Parkwood Blvd, Frisco TX 75034.  It is right off of Parkwood.  You might not even see it at first because it is surrounded by hotels...but you probably won't miss the big Long...

Prairie Creek Park

Did y'all know that right here in North Texas there is a hidden waterfall?  It is tucked inside a wooded greenbelt park that has trails, bridges, and creeks....and it is located right in Richardson Texas.  Prairie Creek Park! The history of this park is that it was founded in 1966 and is one of the oldest and most historical parks in Richardson.  This area has been preserved to protect nature and wildlife habitats.  Beautiful park, and has a waterfall?!!  Y’all need to go see this place!  And I should mention that the waterfall is so easy to access.  It is very close to the street where you can park.  And it is pretty easy to find because before you can even see it you will hear it.  The sound of strong rushing water seems to echo through the trees.  And you can even walk over the top of the fall to get onto the trail! You can go and just see the waterfall but I highly recommend going for the walk through the trails.  It is so peace...
